Photos of Governor Nasir El-Rufai's cars destroyed by angry protesters
Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai's entourage was attacked by angry protesters in Kafanchan, Jema’a local government area yesterday December 20th.
The Governor and his entourage were pelted with stones and some of the vehicles broken after addressing some demonstrators immediately after he chaired Kaduna State Security Council meeting in the area.
The official residence of the local government chairman, Dr.Bege Katuka was also burnt by the protesters.
The governor’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, in an official statement released today, quoted the governor as saying
“In the name of God, I am begging you. No one should take the law into his or her hand over what happened in Kafanchan. Although it is unfortunate, but we must rise above induced prejudice and hatred. We must defeat hate with patience, love and dedication to duty and not eye for an eye.
It is also a burden of leadership and we will, by the special grace of God, overcome these forces of darkness who are dividing our citizens using religion, ethnicity and politics. I commend the high sense of professionalism exhibited by security personnel. I listened to three of the women who led the protesters as they asked me questions. I answered them and even invited them to a larger meeting, but they went on rampage and burnt the residence of the local government chairman. The government of Kaduna State and the Security Council sympathize with the chairman of Jema’a local government, Dr.Bege Katuka and his family over the unfortunate incident that led to the burning of their home. Our prayers and support go with them.”
The governor will update the people of the state on the steps being taken to improve security in the state in a state-wide live radio interview today Wednesday night, from 8pm to 10 pm.
Ghana’s President commends Adenuga, inducted into Ovation Hall of Fame

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. John Dramani Mahama has again commended Globacom’s Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr. for his courageous foray into the telecommunications industry hitherto dominated by foreign investors.
President Mahama who stated this while responding at his induction ceremony into the Ovation Hall of Fame organized as part of the 2016 Ovation Green Carol sponsored by Globacom early Monday morning in Lagos, announced that this was why the nation recently conferred Ghana’s highest award of the Companion of the Star of Ghana Award (CSG) on Adenuga.
“Dr. Mike Adenuga is one African who had broken through in telecommunications and entrepreneurship as a whole. From my experience since I was a Deputy Communications Minister and later Communication Minister, the industry was dominated by foreign companies until Dr. Adenuga came with his submarine cables and innovations. That was why we recently presented him with the highest award. It is good to honour our foremost business people ,” President Mahama stated.
On his loss in the just-concluded elections, President Mahama said “while I might feel disappointed that Ghanaians did not see what I was trying to do, the will of the people must be respected. In four years time, there will be another election and the people will speak. Let the narrative be that Africa is developed. I have moved on and will hand over on January 7th”.
The President also lauded the Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, who also marked his 24th wedding anniversary on the occasion, for his giant strides in the last 20 years of publishing Ovation Magazine and the success of the ninth edition of the Ovation Carol. He described Chief Momodu as “a pan-Africanist, a passionate believer in democracy, patriot and a comrade.”
Addressing the guests, Globacom’s Commercial Coordinator, Enterprise Business Group, Mr. Folu Aderibigbe, said that the love of the people guides all Globacom’s our actions. His words: “from the per second billing which made telecommunications services accessible to all, to our numerous firsts culminating lately, to the speed of life, the Glo 4G LTE, we have always ensured provision of quality products at affordable rates to our esteemed subscribers. This is our bond with Nigerians and we assure you that we will never renege on this.”
Aderibigbe further explained that “it is also for this reason that we have continued to partner with laudable initiatives like the Ovation Carol, an international star-studded musical fiesta organized to return thanks to the Almighty for its numerous mercies in the out-going year.”
Also at the event, King Sunny Ade was inducted into the Ovation Hall of Fame whilst other recipients namely the Family of OJB Jezreel and Cymbals Dance Crew were honoured with cash awards. A Ghanaian, Mr. Richard McCarthy was also rewarded with a cash sum of N500,000 for taking kids off the street of Ghana through boxing.
All the advertised top artistes gave excellent accounts of themselves with Flavour and King Sunny Ade turning the event into a dance party, while the American legend Cameo group, performing live in Africa for the first time, took attendees down memory lane with old tunes such as ‘Single’, ‘Attack me with your love’ and so on, to evoke fond memories of the good old days.
Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, Olu Jazz, Shikane, Biodun Koya, Ruby and Pearl, L.A.X, Niniola, Simi , Ghanaian gospel act, Sunny Rubadu and DJ Jamsomtyn equally put up sterling performances to make the 2016 Ovation Green Carol a memorable and unforgettable one.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide strike in
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide strike in May 1,2017 if the Federal Government does not begin implementation of the N56,000 new national minimum wage it proposed or even set up a committee to that effect.
This was made in a statement by Congress’ President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba on during a meeting in Abuja. minimum wage.
The issue of minimum wage remains sacrosanct because of the fact that by law and practice, the review is due and overdue. I have said clearly that we cannot guarantee any industrial peace any longer if necessary steps are not taken by government to try to resolve this issue before the next May Day.
This is very clear because as we said, we have sent formal notice of demand as required by law to government to try to constitute the Committee.”
“Essentially, the committee to dialogue and negotiate the minimum wage which is supposed to be tripartite has not been set up. If it is set up, all of you will be aware of the membership and also their terms of reference and the timeline given to them to actually dispose with this very vital issue.”
“The issue is so sensitive because of the fact that a lot of our members have actually been subjected to a lot of difficulties because the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerian workers has been reduced to virtually nothing because of the inflation in the system, the free fall of the naira and to compound it with high cost of goods and services.”
“More so, most workers now cannot meet up with their daily needs, they can’t pay their rents, they can’t send their children to school.”
It is even more compounded because cost of goods and services has gone up. So, side by side with the issue of fighting corruption is also for workers to be paid a decent wage that they can be able to have a meaningful living, so, this is the challenge.”
They must see reason to try to accommodate it because the fact is very obvious that it is legitimately due both in law and practice and therefore this is our approach.”
“Therefore let us not mix two things, is there a resistant to say that there will be no review of minimum wage? I am not sure I have heard that because by our constant interaction, the government has through the Minister of Labour said they are also willing to review the minimum wage.”
“ As I said earlier, we have made a formal demand, written and therefore if there is the need to review the template, we will do that at the table but that will have to be jointly. What we have submitted is N56,000 and therefore that N56,000 is still valid.

20,000 Workers Lose Out As Govt Shuts Courier Service Providers
The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), has authorised shutting down of some courier service providers in Nigeria.
With the move, more than 20,000 workers are to be affected, and will lose their jobs.
According to analysts, this is contrary to government’s promise to create more jobs to reduce high rate of unemployment plaguing the country, which the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently raised the alarm on its jump to 46 per cent.
Though NIPOST says it is acting in its capacity as the regulatory arm of courier services in the country, some of the affected companies allege that the clamp down was sponsored.
They frowned at its inauspicious timing when many of their clients had sent consignment for delivery to their business associates and families for the Christmas
A director in one of the affected firms said there was no evidence that his outfit failed to comply with any requirement to run the services in the country.
“We went out of our ways to attract foreign investment into the country, but see how we are being treated by a government that is passing through recession.
“The older courier companies, including DHL, UPS and some others, have not been happy seeing the innovation that new courier companies have introduced in the service, hence they are inciting government agencies against us,” he alleged.
Among the affected firms are Lagos-based Mitchelle Mercantile Limited, Triple J. Chinese Restaurant, Chizzy Nigeria Limted, Essay Holdings Limited, Errandz4You and Finder King, while more than five were in Abuja, with yet-to-be ascertained number in Port Harcourt.
The Senior Assistant Postmaster General and Head of Courier Regulatory Department, Ishaya Diwa, explaining the reason behind the clamp down, said it was not new, adding that his department had been issuing warning on operators in the sector before Monday when it carried out the exercise.
Experts said more efforts would have been taken to find out some of the challenges that operators in the sector, especially the indigenous companies, are facing before the option of shutting them down

FG To Shut Down Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport for six weeks
The minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika has announced the closure of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport for six weeks within February and March 2017.
He said the decision is hinged on government’s plans for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Sirika announced this while addressing newsmen on Monday, he said the closure is in line with the aim of the Federal government to restructure the aviation agencies which will ensure repositioning of the sector.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari has okayed the reconstruction of the airport to commence immediately as the airport is of central importance to the smooth administration of the country.
He further stated that within this period of six weeks, Julius Berger, the contractor, will be seen reconstructing and repairing the damaged airport runaway.
Sirika explained that repairs of the Abuja airport runaway had been ongoing in the last three months but closure had to come to fore to accelerate the reconstruction within the shortest possible time as the federal government can’t afford to close the airport for a long time.
“From start to finish of the runway, it will take six months. However, we will be using the runway almost throughout the period except for about six weeks when the runway will be closed,” Sirika asserted.
“That is when we are going to do the mid-section of the runway. The government has accepted the design done by the contractor. The runway will last for another 10 years on completion early next year.”
He explained that the Kaduna Airport will be used as alternative route for Abuja-bound air passengers from any part of the world within this six weeks period.
He also explained that palliative measures have been put in place to convey passengers from Kaduna airport down to Abuja.
According to him, the consensus between the federal government and the Kaduna state government is for the federal government to provide buses to transport air passengers from Kaduna to Abuja and the state government would provide adequate security for passengers.
He said this is of high cost to the federal government “but we think that palliative approach is wrong because three years down we will come back to do the same repairs.
“Therefore, we decided to go for the bigger option, which is to do structural repairs of the runway which will take about six months to complete.”
Sirika also explained that the federal government had signed BASA with 18 countries that Nigerians frequently visit and do business in as bilateral air agreement.
The Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), he said, would give Nigeria the opportunity to operate air services with 18 countries.
“With this, we have the freedom to fly and land safely in other air space and this will assist in opening our market,” said Sirika.

Ireland deportee who stabbed his father to death in Lagos
24 year old Bakare Babalola Rotimi Jnr (pictured above) who stabbed his father to death and also inflicted stab wounds on his mother at their home in Magodo, Lagos state on Sunday December 4th (read here) today told the police that he carried out the dastard act because his parents wanted to kill him and use him for ritual. According to him, his father got what he deserved.
Babalola who allegedly got deported from Ireland because of his drug addiction, told newsmen at the Lagos state police command Ikeja, that he was angry that his parents kept him locked up in the house. The suspect claimed his father used "juju" to bring him back to Nigeria.
“My father got what he deserved. He started it all. I was living in the United Kingdom when he used black magic to bring me back to Nigeria and he locked me up in the house. I don’t know what they intended to do with me.
They called some native doctors to do some rituals with red oil which they kept in my room. The native doctors made some incisions on my body and since then, I have not really been myself and I have been seeing strange things and hearing strange voices. As a religious person, I resorted to God and was praying for my freedom but each time I tried to escape, my father will call area boys who will beat me up with reckless abandon. The intimidation was too much and I was looking for any means of escape. One day, I escaped from my room to the kitchen and I took two kitchen knives which I hid in my pocket for protection. On that fateful day, while my mother was cooking in the kitchen, I greeted her but she started raining abuses on me. I knew there was trouble because she always beats me whenever she is angry. I went to my father too and he started raining curses on me. When I asked what the problem was, he started beating me and as I was tired of his beating, I dipped my hand in my pocket and brought out the knife and stabbed him in the leg. When he wanted to disarm me, I stabbed him in the stomach and he fell down and my mother started shouting. I threatened her to give me the key to the door so that I can leave. She refused and I stabbed her too. They started it all. They wanted to use me for ritual. I regret my actions anyway but if they did not bring me back to Nigeria, I would have still been in the UK” he said

5 Things To Know About Kim Kardashian’s Alleged Mystery Illness
Kim Kardashian is allegedly suffering from a mysterious illness Endometriosis. Here’s everything you need to know about the condition.
1. It’s an illness that affects a woman’s uterus.
“Endometriosis is when the lining of the uterus called the endometrium, grows outside of the uterus, and inside the belly,” gynecologist Dr. Jhansi Reddy told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY of the illness that Kim Kardashian, 36, allegedly suffers from. “Every month the lining sheds when a woman menstruates. However, when someone has endometriosis this doesn’t happen. Instead of the blood coming out through the vagina, it goes backwards up the Fallopian tubes and into the belly.”
2. There are several unpleasant symptoms associated with the condition.
According to Dr. Reddy, the illness can cause chronic pelvic pain, painful periods, longer and heavier periods, nausea, pain with sex and sometimes infertility.

3. Doctors are unsure why it causes infertility.
“We don’t fully know why it causes infertility,” Dr. Bruce Lee tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “The best thing is to catch it early. If detected and treated early, infertility is much less of an issue.”
4. However, a woman can still have children if she has it.
“Not all women with endometriosis are infertile, and many go on to conceive,” Dr. Lee said, something Kim was able to do even if she does suffer from the disease. He added that, “endometriosis does not affect a pregnancy once it occurs.” “However, women with endometriosis may have trouble conceiving because of the scar tissue caused by the endometriosis,” Dr. Reddy said. “In this case, I would recommend IVF.”
5. There is no cure, but there are treatments available for the illness.
“With birth control pills the symptoms can be managed,” Dr. Reddy said. “Birth control can also suppress the endometriosis from growing. If birth control doesn’t work, a person can have surgery, which would involve either scraping the endometriosis off or burning it off.” “In severe cases, treatment may also include removal of the ovaries and Fallopian tubes and the uterus,” Dr. Lee adds.
Colton Haynes Reveals Heartbreaking Struggle With Mental Health Issues & Alcohol
How devastating! Colton Haynes is revealing how deeply he struggled with his mental and emotional health and how the actor abused alcohol and pills to cope. Keep reading for his heartbreaking first person account of how he overcame severe demons.
Colton Haynes, 28, is giving us the most in-depth details of how he was plagued by terrible depression, despite starring on such hit shows as Arrow and Teen Wolf. In a deeply personal testimonial for Paper magazine, the actor — who came out as gay in May after going to rehab for anxiety — does a mental health check-in of where he was several years ago versus how he’s doing now.
In a passage dated Nov. 2, 2014, he wrote, “Something’s been off recently. I honestly wake up after five hours of sleep wide awake. It’s probably from the bottle of wine I drank before I finally fell asleep/passed out or the amount of pills I’d had. I read up on why I’m experiencing numbness and lack of circulation in my hands and feet and it’s due to the stimulants…I’m a vampire. A shell.
He continues, “Wishing I was the old Colton. The person who used to love going out and talking to my family/friends. Now I’m so closed off to the world that I can’t even get up enough courage to go in public. I’m afraid of people and have become agoraphobic. When I do leave the house it’s for work, the liquor store, or to grab coffee and an occasional sandwich from the store to suppress the hunger.” How devastating!
The star realized he was blessed with acting success, but couldn’t get over the downsides of fame. “People don’t understand the things you give up in life when you step into the limelight. No one really wants to get to know you, they just want you to post a pic of them on Instagram or to like their photo. VAPID. I got myself into this mess and even though I am losing the battle right now…I won’t in the long run. Mark my words.”
Colton then brings us to where he is in the present day, and he’s in such a better place. In testimonial dated Nov. 12, 2016 he reveals, “I’m finally realizing is that I can’t and wouldn’t want to go back to that headspace ever again. So clouded and unsure about myself, my life, my privacy, my mental health. I’m finally in a position where I can say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” he writes. “I’ve accomplished so much with so little and my smile is finally not forced. I’ve taken control of my own life for the first time and won’t ever let anyone silence me or my passions ever again. I’m finally free.” Aww Colton, you’re so inspiring!
